The Brewing Cloud Featured In Cool Hunting

Right out of college, I worked at a “men’s lifestyle” publication called Gear Patrol. After a few months, I got to know the other players in the space. On the print side, there were industry giants like GQ and Esquire. On the digital side (which is where we sat), there were sites like Cool Material and Cool Hunting.

Although these other players were technically competition, the industry wasn’t really big enough to support grudges, so I came to have a healthy respect for all of them. As long as they didn’t steal my titles (which only happened once, and I’m pretty sure it was an accident), we were friends.

Years later, when one of Hop Culture’s interns was applying for his first job out of college, he took a position with Cool Hunting. It was pretty cool to see someone I’d helped train go into my old stomping grounds. Evan was not only a talented writer but a hard worker and a super nice guy, which made it easy to celebrate his success.

Recently, I sent Evan a copy of The Brewing Cloud, and he was able to feature the book on the homepage of Cool Hunting. Seeing my book there made me realize a few things:

  1. It’s important to treat everyone with respect! You never know who will eventually be in a position to help you.
  2. Don’t be afraid to reach out to your contacts. As long as you’ve paid attention to #1, people will probably be willing to offer support.
  3. Evan is a pretty rad dude.

I’m sincerely appreciative of Evan and the Cool Hunting team. I look forward to giving them more to write about soon.
